The Madness of George III transfers to the Apollo Theatre following a sell-out run at the Theatre Royal Bath as part of the Peter Hall Company Season. The production sees Olivier Award-winning actor David Haig return to the West End alongside Clive Francis, Beatie Edney and Madhav Sharma. Set around the time of the Regency Crisis of 1788, Alan Bennett’s biographical drama is based on the true story of King George III’s appalling medical treatment after he succumbs to mental illness and the subsequent power vacuum that divides the politicians and creates tension with his eldest son, the Prince of Wales. First staged at the National Theatre in November 1991, the play was adapted for screen in 1994 as ‘The Madness of King George’.
