Des O’Connor Makes Musical Debut!

Veteran entertainer Des O’Connor has achieved most things in his extensive showbiz career - not least selling more than 16 million albums over the last four decades and starring in numerous stage and television shows (most recently the award-winning Today with Des and Mel). However, despite notching up more than 1,000 performances at the London Palladium, he has never appeared in a West End musical, until now! The 79-year-old will join the cast of rock n’ roll show Dreamboats and Petticoats in the dual role of ‘Older Bobby’ and ‘Bobby’s Dad’ from Monday 3rd October 2011. |
The Golden Years of MusicInspired by one of biggest selling albums of recent years, Dreamboats and Petticoats is a celebration of the greatest songs of the rock 'n' roll era, wrapped up in a romantic storyline that sees two aspiring musicians, Bobby and Norman, enter a national song-writing contest as well as competing for the attention of their infatuated female fans. The show is written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran - the creative partnership behind such celebrated comedies as Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds of a Feather and Shine on Harvey Moon. Dreamboats and Petticoats opened at the Savoy Theatre in July 2009 and enjoyed a successful four month run where it was described as ‘Lively, loud and energetic’ by The Stage and ‘Brings the memories flooding back’ by The Telegraph. The show returned to the West End in January 2010 - opening at the Playhouse Theatre - where it is currently booking until Saturday 24th November 2012.
