The production - which is already being linked with a Broadway transfer - is set to have an official premiere in Pasadena, California in June 2012 with musical theatre veterans Brandi Burkhardt and Robert Tordi in line to play the leading roles of journalist ‘Annie Reed’ and widowed architect ‘Sam Baldwin’. The 1993 film, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, grossed over $227 million worldwide and opened at number two in the US box office behind that year’s Hollywood blockbuster, Jurassic Park. |

Sleepless in Seattle producers will no doubt be buoyed by the early success of another famous ‘90s Hollywood romance that recently found its way to the stage - Ghost the Musical. Based on the 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, the supernatural thriller opened at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre in July and has been almost universally praised by critics and theatregoers. It features original songs by Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and stars Richard Fleeshman, Caissie Levy and Sharon D Clarke in the leading roles. Ghost producers have confirmed that a Broadway transfer will happen in 2012. |
