With season eight up and running on ITV1, the X Factor could be taking a step towards dominating the entertainment industry on stage as well as screen with a brand new West End musical in the pipeline. According to Theatreland rumours, Simon Cowell has approached comedian Harry Hill (The Harry Hill Show & TV Burp) to work on the book alongside composer Steve Brown – the man who wrote the music and lyrics for the brilliant Spend Spend Spend. |
Viva Forever the Next Mamma Mia?Although only in the early stages of development, an X Factor musical could see Simon Cowell go head to head with his old rival Simon Fuller with Viva Forever! – a show based around the music of the Spice Girls - due to open in 2013. Viva Forever! is still under wraps but is likely to take inspiration from the success of Mamma Mia! and the Take That musical Never Forget by matching an original storyline – rumoured to focus on the tawdry side of TV talent shows – with hit songs from the Spice Girl’s back catalogue. Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) has been working on the book. The show will be produced by Judy Craymer in association with Universal Music, Simon Fuller and the Spice Girls.
