History:

The Aldwych Theatre is famous for being the pre-Barbican home of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The venue itself has been around since the turn of the twentieth century. It rose to prominence in the 1920s and 30s when it played host exclusively to the farces of Ben Travers. One notable post-war production was A Streetcar Named Desire (1949) starring Vivien Leigh and directed by Laurence Olivier.
