History:
London’s first Edwardian theatre, the Apollo was devoted primarily to musicals durings its early years before the celebrated actor and producer Sir Charles Hawtrey produced a number of plays and revivals, starting with Things We’d Like to Know in 1914. Notable productions over the years have included Boeing Boeing in the early 1960s, Alan Bennett's play Forty Years On starring John Gielgud in 1968 and Gielgud's last ever theatre performance (in 1988) in Hugh Whitmore’s The Best Of Friends.
