History:
The Palace Theatre was originally commissioned as a venue for British grand opera in the 1880s. It soon became the Palace Theatre of Varieties instead, and a successful venue for film and music hall shows. Notable long-running productions in recent years have included Jesus Christ Superstar (1972-1980) and Les Misérables (1985-2004).
