History:
The Phoenix Theatre opened in 1930, built on the site of a bawdy entertainment house that housed a gambling den downstairs and ‘posing models’ on its upper floors. Noel Coward's Private Lives premiered on the venue's opening night, starring the author alongside Laurence Olivier and Gertrude Lawrence.
