History:
Built in 1911 and originally called the New Prince’s Theatre, the Shaftesbury was renamed after being sold to entertainment group EMI in 1962. Hippy musical Hair literally brought the roof down in 1973, ending its famous run in memorable fashion! The theatre narrowly escaped demolition as a public campaign led to the building being Grade II listed and restored instead.
