Good, starring David Tennant, postponed to spring 2021

The revival of C.P. Taylor's play was due to open at the Playhouse Theatre in October.

UPDATE: Good is now postponed indefinitely at the Harold Pinter Theatre. New dates are to be announced. Read here for more information.

Good, the revival of C.P. Taylor's play starring David Tennant, has announced that it will postpone its planned West End premiere until spring 2021. It had been due to begin a 10-week run at the Playhouse Theatre on 6 October 2020.

In announcing the postponement, director Dominic Cooke said "C.P. Taylor's play, which deals with collective denial, feels more relevant than ever. I have no doubt that it will really resonate for audiences when we open next spring. This delay is unavoidable but only whets my appetite for getting to work on this extraordinary play."

Good is the story of John Halder, a professor in Germany in 1933. On the surface he is a "good" man, but as he progresses through the ranks of the SS, his moral goodness comes unravelled as he is swept along by ambition and national fervour.

David Tennant, who will play the role of John Halder, most recently appeared in the West End in Don Juan in Soho, at the Wyndham's Theatre in 2017. Prior to that he starred in acclaimed revivals of Richard II for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Much Ado About Nothing, again at the Wyndham's.

Originally commissioned for the Royal Shakespeare Company and premiering in 1981 at the Donmar Warehouse, Good was ranked as one of the Most Significant Plays of the 20th century in a survey by the National Theatre. In 2008 a film adaptation was released, starring Viggo Mortensen.
